It's easy to get absorbed with the broad array of shopping, dining and nightlife that Bali has to offer. After all, these activities helped make the charming island a popular destination.

But also hidden among the coasts are the real treasures waiting to be discovered -- both under and over the water.

Bali is one place on earth that allows you to indulge in anything and everything without breaking the bank. You can get an affordable villa in Bali and enjoy a multitude of outdoor adventures at stunningly low prices.

Here is a brief review of the best activities to enjoy outdoors in Bali. What adventures are you excited to try on this engrossing island in Indonesia?

Surfing -- Surfing is said to be the forerunner of all water sports in Bali. At one time, tourism here centered on this activity solely. With a collection of some of the best surfing spots near the Bukit peninsula and the southern coastline, the area draws surfing enthusiasts from all over the world.

Some of the best surfing is on the Jalan Arjuna and Legian beach areas. There are stress-free round-trip pickup points at prominent hotels. Certified instructors are on hand to offer guidance to ride the waves at Sanur, and some of the larger ones at Old Man's Reef in Kangu.

Kitesurfing -- Kiteboarding or kitesurfing is an extreme water sport that is slowly but surely gaining in popularity, not only in Bali, but everywhere. During the high season from May through October, wind speeds are just about perfect for this high-adrenaline outdoor activity.

Feel the thrill of this extraordinary sport, which involves body balance and speed control, as you soar over the outstanding waves along the Sanur Beach. You can easily learn the fundamentals from expert guides. Once you get familiar with the wind directions and waves, you are on course for day of excitement riding the winds and waves.

Important pick-up points are at hotels in Nusa Dua, Kuta, Jimbaran, Seminyak and Legian. The activity includes private kitesurfing lessons at Sanur beach, surfboard with kit and round-trip transfers with an English speaking instructor.

Whitewater Rafting -- If you are looking to challenge the rapids, in an environment full of incredible flora and fauna, then a whitewater rafting trip from the foothills of Mount Agung is tailored for you.

This unique adventure begins right from your hotel doorstep anywhere in the popular tourist zones like Seminyak and Legian. You are transported to the Ubud Adventure center situated on Bali's longest river, Ayung. Professional guides give a short training session and overview before you set out for your adventure.

After you have braved your way through almost three dozen class 2 and class 3 rapids, you can indulge in an hour-long spa treatment to rejuvenate your body. The day comes to a satisfying end at a sumptuous dinner at an exclusive dining outlet.

Hiking -- Some of the best hiking trails of Bali pass through lovely fields of rice, quaint villages and toward lofty mountain peaks. While some of the hikes are strenuous, most can be undertaken by a reasonably fit person.

The most sacred peak of Bali, Mount Agung, is not only popular but also considered a holy site as well. The two best hiking trails here commence from Pura Pasar Agung and Pura Besakih.

The volcanic mountain Mount Batur is admired most for its scenic beauty and the impressive Lake Batur. It is advisable to do the hike with an accredited guide, best arranged from the hotels situated here or through the HPPGB (the guides association) head office in Toya Bungkah.

West Bali National Park, Lake Buyan and Lake Tamblingam offer superb hiking opportunities. If you are into nature and walking, all of these spots are worth a visit.

Biking -- Biking in Bali focuses mainly on personalized itineraries, which include the unique scenery and the rich Hindu culture on this island. Biking in Bali can range from a one-day trip to multiday excursions with something for every type of traveler.

Rides include day trips to Mount Batur, Jatiuwih to the sea, Bali downhill and Batur crater to Ubud. The longer rides are Bali cross country and the Ubud classic. Small group departures of up to four people in the company of knowledgeable guides is the ideal way to enjoy a great day pedaling outdoors.

Snorkeling -- Some of the most picturesque places to snorkel in the world can be found in Bali. The beaches of Bali serve as natural wave breakers, which makes the water calm and perfect for snorkeling.

Because Bali is part of the world renowned Coral Triangle, snorkeling here uncovers a treasure of natural wonders, like rare specimens of fish and other marine life. A typical day trip off Lembongan island allows you to cruise along the southern shore of Bali. Take to the ocean in a kayak and dive in to enjoy world-class snorkeling amidst spectacular fish. Amenities include buffet lunch, transfers, gear and a ride in a luxury catamaran with a hot tub on board.

Diving -- If underwater exploration is high on your agenda, then there is no place better destination. Diving in Bali lets you explore the incredible underworld in this tropical island destination. You can find diving spots for all levels of skill, with excellent visibility among shipwrecks and reef gardens.

Trips typically include a cruise by a luxury catamaran from Crystal Bay to Nusa Penida, from the pick-up point of your hotel. Diving on the beautiful Penida island is an unforgettable experience, placing you amid spectacular natural reefs.

A barbecue lunch, morning and afternoon tea, equipment and guides are included, as is round-trip transportation.
