An Afternoon in the Quiet Village of Aix-En-Provence
Onboard: The morning was free on Viking Orion, as we had an afternoon excursion planned for Aix-en-Provence in the countryside. So, we got in our daily workout and had a nice breakfast at World Cafe with made-to-order eggs that the chefs have been nailing all week. Upon our return from the excursion, we joined our new friends onboard for happy hour drinks.
We find that for sailaways, AquaVit Terrace at the back of the ship is the best spot to be, especially when leaving pretty destinations like Marseille.
Also, this is the spot for the ship's live cooking station, and on this evening, a hearty bouillabaisse is served up in heaping portions to delighted seafood lovers.
We had dinner for a second time during our cruise at Manfredi's. And for a second time, I had several pasta dishes and the big chicken parmigiana entree.
âThis university town is noted as the birthplace of artist Paul Cezanne and for its nearby fields of lavender that bloom a wonderful purple in spring time. We saw no lavender this time of year, but found solace in our wines and cocktails.
We could have stayed there all night and enjoyed the endless conversation and laughs in the warm sunshine. But, alas, we had to get back to the ship.
