Sitka, Alaska
Highlight: We got off the ship for our first stop in Alaska, and pushed ourselves with a 28-mile biking tour, joining eight others cruisers and two tour guides for a fun spin all around the region. The sun poked out intermittently, and we gazed in wonder at the snow-capped peaks and pretty waterways all around the island. Several bald eagles also made appearances, one low-flying bird even buzzing our line of cyclists at a crazy close distance.
What else: We spent the morning sailing in toward the Sitka port and enjoyed a whale sighting just outside our balcony. A quick workout at the gym and properly fueled up on a pool deck lunch (I can't resist the made-to-order gourmet burgers), and we were ready for our day on the bikes.
We also made sure to head back into downtown Sitka after dropping off our bikes so that we could try one of our favorite unique beverages: the Sitka Spruce Tip beer.
