The Demi Hugger Travel Strap Eases Your Luggage Handling

2/22/2017

Demi Hugger travel strap and suitcases for travel
Colleen shows off the travel strap, which easily cinched her massive computer backpack to our small roller suitcase. While she was posing with the luggage, I'm always the one handling it, so anything that makes the process simpler is welcome. And Demi Hugger works nicely.
By John Roberts

I was given a Demi Hugger travel strap to try out. I was intrigued because its purpose is to help secure items such as a backpack, purse, computer bag or duffel bag to the top of a wheeled suitcase.

Colleen and I travel a lot, and I am always plopping items on top of my wheelaround to zip them through the airport terminals, and sometimes they become unwieldy or fall off when I turn too quickly.

The Demi Hugger ends that problem. The flexible neoprene sleeve can be fastened in a number of ways (vertically or horizontally) depending on the size of your travel bag that you are trying to attach to the suitcase. (Check out our pictures at bottom of this post to see the configurations.

You just slip it over the suitcase handle, wrap it around your backpack and secure it tightly with the Velcro end.

I used it on my trip to London, Rome and Barcelona. These are all big airports, and London's Heathrow has especially long walks to exit the terminal and get to the train. So, the Demi Hugger got a real test. Aside from eliminating the problem of the bag toppling off my wheeled luggage, the strap also ended the need for me to grasp the handle of the "piggyback" piece, which gave my hands and wrists a break from that strain.

I was able to keep my backpack affixed to the top of my suitcase even when I stowed my luggage on the Heathrow Express train baggage rack on the way from the airport into London. They stayed snugly together and were easy to stow at the start and grab at the end of my ride, saving me the hassle of breaking them down and reassembling the pair.

The strap also folds up and can be slipped into an outer pocket of your suitcase, and is durable and hand washable. All in all, the Demi Hugger by Demi Innovations is an easy-to-use travel accessory that I would recommend grabbing if you can get over the $32 price tag. It sells on Amazon. Search for Demi Hugger.

How About an Expedition Cruise to Iceland and Greenland?

2/14/2017

Iceland Pro Cruises ship Ocean Diamond
Ocean Diamond carries up to 199 passengers for its voyages to Iceland and Greenland.
By John Roberts

I love island hopping.

Islands offer a chance to connect with small communities and sometimes extremely remote places with beautiful natural surroundings.

I've sailed on amazing voyages to islands in Greece, Alaska and the Caribbean. Now, I think I have found the perfect way to explore Iceland and Greenland. Iceland Pro Cruises has revealed two sailings to the islands of Iceland and Greenland. On these voyages you can discover the immense scenic and cultural variety of the world's largest island, Greenland. Yep, Greenland holds the title. "But Australia!," you say. It loses on a technicality because it's classified as a continent instead.

On the Iceland Pro Cruises journey, you'll sail on the 199-passenger Ocean Diamond to experience the beautiful and fertile south region of Greenland with its fascinating Viking history and modern capital of Nuuk in a traditional Inuit society and the town of Ilulissat with its floating icebergs and UNESCO World Heritage site, Ilulissat Ice Fjord.

The "Iceland and Natural Wonders of Greenland" cruise departs from Reykjavik on July 27 and ends in Kangerlussuaq, Greenland, on August 7. The reverse itinerary "Natural Wonders of Greenland and Iceland" departs Kangerlussuaq on September 2 and returns to Reykjavik on September 13.

Thanks to two stabilizers that significantly reduce roll and an ice-strengthened hull Ocean Diamond is ideal for expeditions in the Arctic region. The ship's compact size allows it to take passengers to places off the traditional cruise routes to experience unique highlights in Iceland and Greenland.

The ship carries Zodiac small boats to take you ashore for excursions. Onboard, you can view the spectacular Arctic scenery from the panorama salon while sailing.
For more info on these cruises, check out the Iceland Pro Cruises website.

Happy sailing!

Carnival Horizon to Sail Cruises to Bermuda from New York City

Carnival Cruise Line's new Carnival Horizon will sail a series of four-day cruises to Bermuda from the cruise port in Manhattan. Carnival Horizon comes to New York in spring 2018, part of the ship's inaugural season that also includes the ship's first voyages in Europe from Barcelona.

Carnival Horizon is a sister ship to Carnival Vista, which I sailed in late 2017. Horizon will look much like Vista, which has tons of cool things to do onboard.

Once Carnival Horizon arrives to the United States, it will sail spring and summer to Bermuda and then head to its homeport in Miami for cruises to the Caribbean.

The four-day "long weekend" Bermuda cruises will depart on Thursdays and feature a full-day visit to Bermuda where you can relax on the island's legendary pink beaches, enjoy snorkeling, kayaking and other water sports, as well as take excursions to historical landmarks such as the Royal Naval Dockyard and Gibb's Hill Lighthouse, the oldest cast iron lighthouse in the Western Hemisphere. There will be five four-day Bermuda cruises: departing May 24, June 21, July 19, August 16 and September 13, 2018.

"Bermuda is a beautiful and sought-after destination, and what better way to visit this breathtaking island paradise than on the spectacular Carnival Horizon," said Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line.

ORE NEWS . . .
Carnival also has revealed an awesome Alaska adventure lasting 14 days on Carnival Splendor. This is perfect, because if you're going to go to explore the Final Frontier, one week is not enough. The longer the better, and a two-week voyage gives you the chance to experience so much more in this incredible natural wonderland.

As part of its expanding lineup of Carnival Journeys, longer-duration cruises, Carnival Splendor will sail round-trip from Long Beach, Calif., and feature visits to sites such as majestic Hubbard Glacier and a day-long visit to Icy Strait Point, an unspoiled wilderness area offering some of Alaska's best whale and bear watching.

The voyage will depart Long Beach and August 25 and return September 8, 2018, and features the spectacular destinations of Ketchikan, Skagway, Juneau and Sitka, along with a day-long stop at Victoria, British Columbia.

I
n addition to unique cultural opportunities and historic landmarks, each of these ports offers natural wonders like calving glaciers, scenic fjords and native sea and animal wildlife. A wide variety of shore excursions -- from helicopter flightseeing and rainforest canopy tours to hiking, canoeing and kayaking expeditions, and alpine lake snorkeling -- will also be available.
