I'm digging the fact that Avalon Waterways is working to appeal to travelers who not only like to see cool stuff in new places around the world but also enjoy doing new things at the same time during these adventures.
Avalon Waterways is expanding its popular "Active Discovery" menu of cruises to include two new Active Discovery on the Rhine itineraries. On these highly unique vacations, travelers have the opportunity to bike, hike and explore their way through Europe. These are cruises focused on engaging in the unfamiliar. Avalon also has these types of fitness-focused voyages on the Danube River.
"Our new Active Discovery on the Rhine cruises introduce travelers to the people and places of Europe in the most active, engaged and fun ways imaginable," said Terri Burke, managing director of Avalon Waterways. "They can bike along the Rhine River, take a running tour of Amsterdam or hike on incredible trails. They can also immerse themselves in history and culture in each port with excursions to historic castles, a culinary tour or painting class. Avalon travelers can even dress up in real Roman attire and participate in a reenactment of the Roman Games, tour an extinct volcano and a coal mine -- a UNESCO World Heritage site."
The new eight-day voyages go between Amsterdam and Frankfurt on the Rhine.
Also, for the second year, Avalon Waterways is offering Active Discovery on the Danube cruises (nine days between Budapest and Linz, Austria) which include opportunities to bike, hike and canoe along the Danube. You also can explore an ice cave, take an archery lesson, descend into an underground salt mine, climb a mountain during a guided climb or play nine holes of golf. Avalon Waterways' Active Discovery cruises are priced from $3,249.
