A Day of Scenic Cruising in Alaska on Regent Seven Seas Mariner

Making new friends is always a highlight of our travels.
Day 11
Sailing the Outside Passage
Highlight: It was a beautiful sea day and a perfect way to close out the cruise. The prior night, we joined our new friends that we met on board. Kim and Pete from West Palm Beach, Fla., hosted a cocktail party in their Horizon Suite, which is a spectacular aft stateroom. On this morning, we woke up and got in a workout and prepared to just relax the day away. Passengers gathered at the Observation Lounge in the afternoon as the onboard lecturer gave a talk about the sights and animals we were able to spot as we sailed this majestic portion of Southeastern Alaska. We spotted porpoises, sea lions, eagles and whales. Alaska never disappoints.
What else: We finally got our turn in Prime 7 steakhouse for a big final night meal. After that, it was a few more cocktails with our friends before it was time to say goodbye. It all went by so quickly, but we had the great time we had expected. We can’t wait to return to Alaska!

This is why you always need a balcony when sailing in Alaska.
Day 5
Sailing the Inside Passage
Highlight: This was a lazy day around the ship. We are enjoying the comforts and views of our concierge class suite No. 931. Colleen and I have been plopping down at the gaming tables located near the Coffee Connection cafe and playing a daily game of backgammon. (I'm 0 for 3 against her after this latest loss.)
What else: By now, we have settled into a small batch of daily rituals. We had a great workout in the little gym space, played the 4:30 afternoon trivia with our new friends at the bar in the ship's Observation Lounge and had a third meal at Sette Mari (at the same table by the window each time). The crew on Regent Seven Seas Mariner have been taking great care of us, and you can tell they love their jobs. Other passengers have also had rave reviews about the service and attention to details that they appreciate, noting that this is why they sail with Regent again and again.

Sea Day and Whale Spotting on Regent Seven Seas Mariner

Regent Seven Seas Mariner
Day 3
Sea day on Regent Seven Seas Mariner
Highlight: We woke up and took a stroll on the top deck and immediately noticed the bursts of mist in the distance. Our ship was going extremely slowly in the calm water as our captain took his time taking us past a pod of whales. What a fantastic way to start the voyage. We're hoping for more whale sightings in the days ahead.
What else: We got in a good workout at the small gym amid several other passengers who had the same idea. Also, we enjoyed an al fresco lunch on the pool deck, which was a funny mix of cruisers in bathing suits enjoying the sun and hot tubs and others decked out in winter jackets in the sunny but indeed brisk conditions.
We joined the afternoon trivia, which I think will be a daily ritual now, and made a couple new friends. Dinner at the main dining room, Compass Rose, was a nice way to end the relaxing day. I had a delicious steak, and Colleen enjoyed the lobster and entire Canyon Ranch Spa menu items (a lower-calorie meal design).
