Viking Ocean Cruises Welcomes Viking Orion
Onboard: The naming ceremony took place for Viking Orion on the bow of the ship during the evening, and we joined dozens of astronauts and former astronauts who are sailing with us to watch Godmother Dr. Anna Fisher swing a Viking ax to cut a ribbon and christen the newest ship in the fast-growming Viking Ocean Cruises' fleet. The ceremony focused on telling the story of Vikings and their heritage, and a highlight included a "Rocket Man" using a jet pack to fly from the top of the tower at Fortezza Vecchia down to the marina and zoom around the ship for a dazzling spectacle before landing at the bow and handing off the ceremonial ax to Fisher.
Ashore: We have long wanted to get to the town of Lucca, and today, we made it there. This charming destination in the heart of the Tuscany region is known as the City of 100 Churches and for the wall the encircles the old city area. The wall is four kilometers long and features wide paths ideal for running, walking and biking along a you view the city below. We took a long stroll around the wall to take in the sights before settling at a cafe for a beer and couple of Tuscan snacks.
