Avalon Waterways’ New Adventure Hosts to Set the Pace on Europe River Cruises
Avalon Waterways will place Adventure Hosts on each of its Europe river ships, and these crew members will be able to set up exercise classes and other daily active pursuits (like hiking and biking) during your itinerary.
On our very first river cruises, we had to look for our own ways to be more active when we headed ashore. That required a little research to find out the best biking, hiking or running routes as we ventured into the villages and cities along the great rivers of Europe.
Cruise lines in recent years are realizing the growing demand for fitness-based activities from their passengers, who often have extra time to kill and a willingness to explore destinations off the beaten tourist trails.
Avalon Waterways has responded to this demand with a number of programs aimed at active river cruisers. On the heels of unveiling Active & Discovery itineraries on its Rhine, Danube and Rhone River sailings, as well as a new "Avalon Choice" program featuring active excursions (included in your fare) on every itinerary throughout Europe, Avalon Waterways has announced plans to add an Avalon Adventure Host, based in a new Adventure Center, to all 2019 European cruises.

"For those looking for heart-pumping discoveries as well, we are now providing our guests with an Avalon Adventure Host who will be on hand with gear, maps and more for active pursuits on and off the ship."
With help from these expert crew members, you can check out a bike for a scenic ride through town or grab a Nordic walking stick to use on a hike to a hillside vineyard or castle.
The fitness hosts also can help you set up a kayaking excursion on the river or get you into a complimentary fitness class on the ship's Sky Deck.
Also, in 2019, the line's new AvalonGo App will help travelers independently explore each destination throughout their vacation with a detailed, daily schedule of their itinerary, a list of nearby attractions (featuring hours of operation, historical facts and more), maps, directions as well as cafes, restaurants, bars and entertainment options for further exploration.
