Being a sports nut, I can appreciate how many of you Loopers might like an upcoming theme sailing offered by Celebrity Cruises. The line has unveiled its second New York Rangers Legends Cruise. (I'm a Montreal Canadiens guy, but I'll set rivalries aside to give you this info.)

Former Rangers players Adam Graves, Ron Greschner, Jeff Beukeboom and Stephane Matteau are among the players expected on the voyage, which departs July 26 from the port in Cape Liberty, N.J., bound for a seven-night journey to Bermuda.

Some of those names familiar to you? Well, Greschner, one of the greatest Rangers, who played for the team from 1974-1990, might best be known as the ex-hubbie of supermodel Carol Alt.

Matteau was a playoff hero, with two clutch overtime goals that helped power the Rangers to the Stanley Cup in 1994.

Cruisers will get a chance to learn shooting tips during clinics and interact with the players during Q&A sessions and other meet-and-greet events.

What do you think? Interested in hanging with sports starts on an theme cruise, or is your vacation something you'd prefer to keep separate from your sporting passions?

Loopers, weigh in below in the comments section.

Carnival Cruise Lines Will Send Eight Ships to Its Brand-New Port in Dominican Republic

Carnival Cruise Lines says its brand-new port facility in the Dominican Republic will see its first cruise ship in October 2015.

Amber Cove, a more than $60 million facility on the island nation's north coast, is scheduled to receive calls from eight Carnival ships, beginning October 6 when Carnival Victory arrives.

Amber Cove was designed with architectural nods to the region's colonial history and is set amid a picturesque cove offering lush tropical scenery and a range of recreational, cultural, dining and shopping opportunities, Carnival says.

The port also is included on itineraries for Carnival Breeze, Carnival Glory, Carnival Splendor, Carnival Conquest, Carnival Sunshine and Carnival Valor and will get 37 calls with more than 100,000 passengers between October 2015 and April 2016 from the eight Carnival ships.

MSC Cruises Offers Theme Cruises with Ex-MLB Players

MSC Cruises has a series of theme cruises set for its Miami-based MSC Divina.

Especially of interest to you Loopers will be three sailings of MSC's seven-night "Baseball Greats" cruise.

You'll get to mix and mingle with former Major League Baseball players during instructional clinics, Q&A and autograph sessions and contests, such as a passenger pitching event. That competition sounds like fun, but I'm sure there will be a lot of sore arms in the days that follow. Trying to relive my former high school sports glory never works out as well in reality as it does in my delusional mind.

Sailings depart Miami on February 7, February 21 and March 7, 2015, bound for St. Maarten, San Juan and private beach Great Stirrup Cay, Bahamas.

Players expected to sail include Art Shamsky (Mets), Gorman Thomas (Brewers), Randy Hundley (Cubs) and Ken Griffey (Reds).

MSC Divina has three other theme cruises on tap:

A two-night post-New Year Extravaganza, departs January 11, 2015, to Nassau, Bahamas;

A four-night Valentine's Day/Mardi Gras Celebration, departs February 14, 2015, to Nassau and Great Stirrup Cay;

A four-night Songs of the 60s voyage, departing April 22, 2015, to Cozumel, Mexico.

Join the conversation. What type of theme cruise would you consider joining?
